Session 3&4:

"Playing With the Words" and "The Frog and the Ox" are very interesting unit for learning grammar. Both are based on competency 2. In the unit "Playing With the Words" is discussed about suffix and prefix. On the other hand, "The Frog and the Ox" is designed with degrees of adjectives.

Experience of “Playing With the Words”

Prefixes and suffixes are known as affixes. Prefixes and suffixes are added to the root word. A root word is the most basic meaningful part of a word. Prefix is a letter or a group of letters that we add to the beginning of a roof or a root word to make a new word. Suffix is also a letter or group of letters that we add after a root or a root word to make a new word. By using these. we can make a synonymous and anonymous word easily.

Synonym:
A synonym is a word or phrase that has the same or nearly the same meaning as another word or phrase in the same language. For example - small is a synonym for little.
Antonym:
An antonym is a word opposite in meaning to another word. For example big is the antonym of small.

Experience of “The Frog and the Ox”

This unit starts with a very interesting story. The story is like this -
A frog wanted to be as big as an ox. The frog blew itself as much as possible and continued to do so until it burst. It was the end of a big frog in the small pond. We should not try to be something what we cannot be.
Through this story we entered into the world of degrees of adjectives. Here we know that they are used to compare one thing to another. The three degrees of adjectives are-

a) Positive degree: This is the base form of an adjective. It talks about only one thing and it does not show any comparison. Example sentence: Rajshahi is a big city.
b) Comparative degree: This form of an adjective is used to compare two things. Example sentence: Chittagong is bigger than Rajshahi.
c) Superlative degree: This form of an adjective is used to compare three or more things. Example sentence: Dhaka is the biggest city in Bangladesh.

After analyzing the unit/experience "Playing With the Words" and "The Frog and the Ox", we can say that both units are very helpful to learn English Grammar. So, we are very satisfied with these units.

My Key Learning from the Comparative Analysis

We have learned many things from the experience/unit 1 of our English and Science textbooks, and also from our friends during the group activities. They are -
(1) Listen to others attentively
(2) Respect other Opinions
(3) Respond logically
(4) Comparative study
(5) Analysing of a text
(6) Social practices
(7) Creating scopes for others to talk
(8) Oral Communication
(9) Written communication

Why these learning are important

Any kind of learning helps to build our lives. Now we explain Why these learning are important. Discussed below-

1. Listen to others attentively

Listening attentively to others is important because it helps us understand them better and improves our communication skills.
It shows respect and makes conversations more enjoyable. By actively listening, we can learn from others, gain different perspectives, and foster meaningful connections based on understanding and empathy.

2. Respect Other Opinions

This is the importance of respecting others' opinions. It teaches you to acknowledge that there isn't only one version of the truth. What might be true for you may not necessarily be the same for others. And other people’s truths may not always coincide with your beliefs.

3. Oral Communication

Oral communication is important because it enables direct and immediate interaction between individuals. It allows for an efficient exchange of information, facilitates effective conflict resolution, and promotes a deeper level of personal connection. Through oral communication, we can express ourselves clearly, build relationships, and foster understanding in a more engaging and impactful way.

4. Written communication

Writing is important because it lets us share information through words on paper or screens. It helps us keep a record of important things and communicate clearly. Writing is also helpful for talking to people who are far away. It connects us even when we're not in the same place.

Central theme / Main ideas of the above text

The central theme of the text is the importance of effective communication and understanding in our lives.
