Bangladeshi cuisine is rich and varied with the use of many spices.
We have delicious and appetizing food, snacks and sweets.Boiled rice is our staple food. It is served with a variety of vegetables, curry, lentil soups, fish and meat. Fish is the main source of protein. Fishes are now cultivated in ponds. Also we have fresh-water fishes in the lakes and rivers. More than 40 types of fishes are common. Some of them are carp, rui, katla, magur (catfish), chingri (prawn or shrimp).
Shutki or dried fishes are popular. Hilsha is very popular among the people of Bangladesh. Panta ilish isa traditional platter of Panta bhat. It is steamed rice soaked in water and served with fried hislsha slice, often together with dried fish, pickles, lentil soup, green chilies and onion. It is a popular dish on the Pahela Boishakh. The people of Bangladesh are very fond of sweets. 
Almost all Bangladeshi women prepare some traditional sweets. Pitha, a type of sweets made from rice flour, sugar, syrup, molasses and sometimes milk, is a traditional food loved by the entire population. During winter Pitha Utsab, meaning pitha festivalis organized by different groups of people. Sweets are distributed among close relatives when there is good news like births, wedding, promotions, etc. 
Sweets of Bangladesh are mostly milk-based. The common ones are roshgulla, sandesh, rasamalai, gulap jamun, kalo jamun and chom-chom. There are hundreds of different varieties of sweet preparations. Sweets are therefore an important part of the day-to-day life of Bangladeshi people.

আমাদের রয়েছে সুস্বাদু এবং ক্ষুধার্ত খাবার, স্ন্যাকস এবং মিষ্টি। সেদ্ধ চাল আমাদের প্রধান খাদ্য। এটি বিভিন্ন ধরণের শাকসবজি, তরকারি, মসুর ডাল স্যুপ, মাছ এবং মাংসের সাথে পরিবেশন করা হয়। মাছ হল প্রোটিনের প্রধান উৎস। এখন পুকুরে মাছ চাষ করা হয়। এছাড়াও আমাদের হ্রদ এবং নদীতে মিষ্টি জলের মাছ রয়েছে। 40 টিরও বেশি ধরণের মাছ সাধারণ। এদের মধ্যে কয়েকটি হল কার্প, রুই, কাতলা, মাগুর (ক্যাটফিশ), চিংরি (চিংড়ি বা চিংড়ি)।
শুটকি বা শুটকি মাছ জনপ্রিয়। বাংলাদেশের মানুষের কাছে ইলিশ খুবই জনপ্রিয়। পান্তা ইলিশ হল পান্তা ভাটের ঐতিহ্যবাহী থালা। এটি জলে ভিজিয়ে ভাজা ভাত এবং ভাজা হিলশা স্লাইসের সাথে পরিবেশন করা হয়, প্রায়শই শুকনো মাছ, আচার, মসুর ডাল স্যুপ, সবুজ মরিচ এবং পেঁয়াজ। পহেলা বৈশাখে এটি একটি জনপ্রিয় খাবার। বাংলাদেশের মানুষ মিষ্টি খুব পছন্দ করে।
প্রায় সব বাংলাদেশী মহিলাই কিছু ঐতিহ্যবাহী মিষ্টি প্রস্তুত করে। পিঠা, চালের আটা, চিনি, সিরাপ, গুড় এবং কখনও কখনও দুধ থেকে তৈরি এক ধরণের মিষ্টি, সমগ্র জনগণের কাছে প্রিয় একটি ঐতিহ্যবাহী খাবার। শীতকালে পিঠা উৎসব, মানে পিঠা উৎসব বিভিন্ন দলের দ্বারা আয়োজিত হয়। জন্ম, বিবাহ, পদোন্নতি ইত্যাদির মতো সুসংবাদ থাকলে নিকটাত্মীয়দের মধ্যে মিষ্টি বিতরণ করা হয়।
বাংলাদেশের মিষ্টি বেশির ভাগই দুধভিত্তিক। সাধারণ হল রোশগুল্লা, সন্দেশ, রসমালাই, গোলাপ জামুন, কালো জামুন এবং চম-চম। রয়েছে শত শত রকমারি মিষ্টির প্রস্তুতি। মিষ্টি তাই বাংলাদেশিদের দৈনন্দিন জীবনের একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ।
