ভূমিকা : পাকিস্তান দাবির ভিত্তিতেই মুসলিম লীগ ১৯৪৫-৪৬ সালের নির্বাচনে অংশগ্রহণ করে। ১৯৪৫ সালের আগস্ট মাসে জিন্নাহ সকল মুসলমানকে মুসলিম লীগে যোগদান করতে আহ্বান জানান ।
১৯৪৬ সালের বাংলার প্রাদেশিক আইনসভা নির্বাচনের ফলাফল :
১৯৪৬ সালের মার্চ মাসে প্রাদেশিক আইনসভার নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। এই নির্বাচনে মুসলিম লীগ ও কংগ্রেস বিপুলভাবে জয়লাভ করে। বঙ্গীয় প্রাদেশিক পরিষদের ২৫০টি আসনের মধ্যে মুসলিম লীগ সর্বোচ্চ ১১৪টি আসন পায়।
কংগ্রেস পায় ৮৬টি আসন। এ নির্বাচনে ফজলুল হকের কৃষক শ্রমিক পার্টির চরম বিপর্যয় ঘটে। তারা পায় মাত্র ৪টি আসন। অথচ ১৯৩৭ সালের নির্বাচনে কৃষক প্রজা পার্টির ৩৫টি আসন, মুসলিম লীগ ৩৭টি এবং কংগ্রেস ৩৯টি আসন লাভ করেছিল।
এ নির্বাচনে মুসলিম লীগের অভূতপূর্ব বিজয় বাংলা তথা সমগ্র ভারতের ইতিহাসে এক যুগান্তকারী ঘটনা। অনেকে একে “ব্যালট বাক্সে বিপ্লব" বলে অভিহিত করেছেন।
এভাবে কেন্দ্রীয় ও প্রাদেশিক আইনসভার সাধারণ নির্বাচনে মুসলিম লীগ মুসলমানদের একটি রাজনৈতিক প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশ করে এবং তাদের পাকিস্তান দাবি ন্যায়সঙ্গত বলে প্রমাণিত হয়।
উপসংহার :
পরিশেষে বলা যায় যে, ১৯৪৬ সালের বঙ্গীয় আইন পরিষদের নির্বাচনের ফলাফল ঘোষণার পর হোসেন শহীদ সোহরাওয়ার্দী লীগ পার্লামেন্টারি পার্টির নেতা নির্বাচিত হন।
১৯৪৬ সালের ২ এপ্রিল বাংলার গভর্নর ফ্রেডারিক বারোস সোহরাওয়ার্দীকে মন্ত্রিসভা গঠনের আমন্ত্রণ জানান। অতঃপর বাংলা প্রদেশে হোসেন শহীদ সোহরাওয়ার্দীর নেতৃত্বে ১৯৪৬ সালের ২৪ এপ্রিল ৯ সদস্য বিশিষ্ট একটি মন্ত্রিসভা গঠিত হয়।

Introduction: The Muslim League participated in the elections of 1945-46 based on the demand of Pakistan. In August 1945, Jinnah called upon all Muslims to join the Muslim League.
Bengal Provincial Legislative Election Results of 1946:
Elections to the Provincial Legislature were held in March 1946. The Muslim League and the Congress won by a landslide in this election. Out of the 250 seats in the Bengal Provincial Council, the Muslim League got the maximum number of 114 seats.
Congress gets 86 seats. In this election, Fazlul Haque's Krishak Sramik Party suffered an extreme disaster. They get only 4 seats. However, in the 1937 elections, Krishak Praja Party won 35 seats, Muslim League 37 seats and Congress 39 seats.
The unprecedented victory of the Muslim League in this election is a landmark event in the history of Bengal and the whole of India. Many have called it a “revolution at the ballot box”.
Thus in the general elections of the Central and Provincial Legislatures the Muslim League emerged as a political organization of the Muslims and their demand for Pakistan was proved to be justified.
Conclusion:
Finally, it can be said that Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy was elected the leader of the Suhrawardy League Parliamentary Party after the announcement of the results of the Bengal Legislative Council elections of 1946.
On April 2, 1946, the Governor of Bengal, Frederick Burroughs, invited Suhrawardy to form a cabinet. Then a cabinet with 9 members was formed on April 24, 1946 under the leadership of Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy in Bengal province.
