ভূমিকা : মুসলমান পরিচালিত অতীতের কিছু বিদ্রোহ মুসলমানদের প্রতি ইংরেজদের শত্রুভাবাপন্ন করে তুলেছিল। দুইশত বছরের শাসনকালে ইংরেজদের নীতির মধ্যে অন্যতম ছিল ইসলামী সংস্কৃতি বিরোধী শিক্ষাব্যবস্থা।
ফলে মুসলমানদের প্রতি ইংরেজদের অত্যাচার যেমন বেড়ে ওঠে, তেমনি ইংরেজ সৃষ্ট হিন্দু জমিদারদের অত্যাচার এবং নির্বিচার জুলুম তাদের সামাজিক জীবনে দুর্বিসহ অবস্থা সৃষ্টি হয়। এমতাবস্থায় স্যার সৈয়দ আহমদ খান ব্যথিত হন এবং তাঁর নেতৃত্বে পরিচালিত হয় আলীগড় আন্দোলন।
আলীগড় আন্দোলন :
আলীগড় আন্দোলন হচ্ছে আলীগড়ভিত্তিক সমাজ সংস্কারমূলক আন্দোলন। ব্রিটিশশাসিত ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশে যেসব মনীষী পশ্চাৎপদ মুসলমানদের অজ্ঞতা, অশিক্ষা, সামাজিক শোষণ, রাজনৈতিক বঞ্চনা এবং অর্থনৈতিক বিপর্যয়ের বিরুদ্ধে অগ্রণী ভূমিকা পালন করেছেন, তাঁদের মধ্যে স্যার সৈয়দ আহমদ খান অন্যতম।
তিনি তৎকালীন ভারতীয় মুসলিম - সম্প্রদায়ের নবজাগরণের অন্যতম পথনির্দেশক ছিলেন। তাঁর পরিচালিত উত্তর ভারতের আলীগড়ভিত্তিক সংস্কার আন্দোলন ইতিহাসে আলীগড় আন্দোলন নামে পরিচিত।
স্যার সৈয়দ আহমদ খান ব্রিটিশ শাসিত ভারতীয় মুসলমানদের শোষণ, রাজনৈতিক বঞ্চনা এবং অর্থনৈতিক দুর্দশা মোকাবেলা করে অধপতিত মুসলমানদের মর্যাদা সহকারে সমাজে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করার লক্ষ্যে আলীগড় আন্দোলন গড়ে তোলেন।
এটি ছিল প্রত্যক্ষ সংগ্রামের পরিবর্তে ব্রিটিশ শাসনের সঙ্গে সহযোগিতাধর্মী সম্পর্ক স্থাপনের সংস্কার আন্দোলন। ধর্মীয় ও সামাজিক কুসংস্কারের কারণে ভারতের মুসলমানরা সে সময় চরম দুর্দিনের মধ্যে জীবনযাপন করতে থাকে।
স্যার সৈয়দ আহমদ তার বাস্তব চিন্তা ও দূরদর্শিতার দ্বারা সামাগ্রিক অবস্থা পর্যালোচনা করে বুঝতে পারে যে, ইংরেজ ও মুসলমানদের মধ্যে সম্পর্ক স্থাপনই অধঃপতিত মুসলমানদের উন্নতির একমাত্র লক্ষ্য।
এজন্য সবার আগে প্রয়োজন মুসলমানদের মধ্যে পাশ্চাত্য শিক্ষার প্রচলন বাড়িয়ে দেয়া। আর এভাবেই আলীগড় আন্দোলনের সূত্রপাত হয়।
উপসংহার :
পরিশেষে বলা যায় যে, আলীগড় আন্দোলন একটি বিশেষ এলাকায় সীমাবদ্ধ থেকে সারা ভারতবর্ষের মুসলমানদের দায়িত্ব এবং অধিকার সম্পর্কে সজাগ করেছিল।
যা মুসলমানদের অবস্থার ভিত্তি হিসেবে স্বীকৃত। অন্যভাবে বলা যায় যে, আন্দোলন মুসলমানদের আর্থ-সামাজিক ও রাজনৈতিক উন্নয়নে বিশেষ তাৎপর্যপূর্ণ।
