Summary (সারাংশ)
Bellerophon, a young shepherd, lived in a hut by the river in Greece. He had a large dog named Philo as his companion. One day, Prince Proitos of Lycia came to the river with a fleet of boats and Bellerophon avoided him due to his terrible reputation. Soldiers later came to Bellerophon's hut and demanded to buy his livestock, but he refused and Philo scared them away. The prince and his men came to Bellerophon's hut looking for him, but he had fled to the mountain and they were unable to find him. The prince's soldiers, in pursuit of Bellerophon, came to a huge deep lake and realized they cannot cross it. The prince being angry, decided to swim across. despite Bellerophon's warning. As they entered the water, a giant serpent appears, stating they entered without permission and punished them with a swift strike, causing them to drown. The serpent then disappeared with thunderous laughter. After the incident at the lake, Bellerophon went back to his hut. When the news of Prince Proitos' death reached King Lobates in Lycia, he sent for Bellerophon, accusing him of the prince's death. Bellerophon stated his case in front of the king, queen and a priest. The king was reasonable, asking Bellerophon if he had any witnesses to prove his case. Bellerophon stated that God is his witness. The queen and priest suggested that they could know the will of God by giving him a task to complete and if he completes it, he is innocent and if not, he is guilty. The king agreed and assigned Bellerophon the task of bringing back the head of the Chimera, a fire-breathing monster with the head of a lion, a snake for a tail, and the body of a goat, wishing him good luck. Bellerophon set out to complete his task of killing the Chimera, a dangerous beast. On his way, he came across a dark forest and freed a horse named Pegasus who offers to help him as a token of their friendship. Together, they flew to find the Chimera. Bellerophon shot arrows but was unable to kill the beast. He then threw his spear into the Chimera's open mouth, killing it and taking its head as proof of his success. He returned to Lycia as a hero and was welcomed by the king. He was known, thereafter, as Bellerophon, the hero of Lycia.
