Summary (সারাংশ)
Soon after the partition of Indian subcontinent in 1947, the
Pakistani rulers declared Urdu as state language of Pakistan which raised
protest among Bangalees. On 21 February of 1952, the movement reached its
climax when a group of students brought out a procession to defy the curfew
imposed by Pakistani government. When the procession reached Dhaka Medical
college, Police opened fire at the procession that led to wound and death of
many demonstrators named Salam, Jabbar, Rafiq, and Barqat and so many: Later on
the Pakistani government was forced to recognise Bangla as one of the state
languages. The 21 February is now a memorable day and pride for Bangladesh.
UNESCO declared the day as International Mother Language Day. The essence of
this very day is connected with the identity of nations and languages of the
world.
